"It's important to be consistent in your personal brand on all online channels. Today when we meet someone new in a professional setting, it is very likely that they will google you. What comes up in your search results? Making a good first impression is just as important in real life as it is online. Social media, a personal website and mentions on other news sites and blogs will appear high when someone googles you - so make sure that the information you are posting on the internet is consistent with the picture you want people to have of you. For starters, make sure that you keep your social media channels up to date with a consistent bio. Have a professional profile picture so that people get a first good view of you. For cover photos on Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter, you can have something more playful but that still shows who you are and what you do. Personal websites and blogs appear high up in search results - see if you can register your own name . com and set up a blog with an introduction about who you are, and with links to other social media channels where you are active. Be active and share trends, thoughts and tips from your industry. Social media is about giving to receive - share your knowledge and insight with others to build yourself as an industry expert in your field. Also, it's always a good idea to interact with other people that you admire, both professionally and personally. Follow them on social media channels and don't be afraid to reach out to them to discuss industry trends or other relevant subjects that they are also writing and sharing about.
